"I f*&^E$@& love The Royales... it's
the only time people in their mid-30s have a chance
to get randomly lucky in this chronically underage town."

Best Band/Performer: The Royales
The Royales were once again voted "Best Local
Band or Performer" in the Annual Athens NEWS "Best
of Athens" Awards. This marks the fourth year in
a row the Royales have been selected, and the fifth

Even though we are so honored... we will not be raising
our rates. ;) 2/14/08

Best Band/Performer: The Royales
Oops, they did it again, but without wearing those
hot schoolgirl outfits. The Royales, like last year,
take top honors in the Best of Athens Best Local Band
category. This has been a good year for this rocking
R&B squad, who managed to finally finish their first
CD while solidifying their hold on the mantle of best
live band in Athens. 2/14/07

The
Royales would like to thank everyone who voted for us
for the annual contest put on by the Athens NEWS. The
band once again took FIRST PLACE in the category
BEST LOCAL BAND, making us the winner for the
past three of four years, 2003, 2005, and 2006. It goes
without saying we must have really sucked in
04, but we can't remember a damn thing. We're workin'
hard to keep Athens danceable and appreciate the vote
of confidence.
The Royales will also be performing two special
shows this Spring. March 4 at the Casa and
a very special show April 7th, again at the Casa, celebrating
the long awaited return of guitar hero/ spandex manufacturer
extraordinarre, John Spataro! We are stoked to get him
back and glad his stint in the joint is finally over.
Not special enough? It's his birthday that night, and
Roman's two days before so bring presents and tip heavy.

New Years Eve at the Gator was a dream
come true. Special thanks to all the wonderful musicians
involved with an incredible night. Steve Carlson, Catfish,
Bruce and Gay Dalzell, Junebug, and the fans... ah the
good life eh Stimpy?
"Boogie
on the Bricks" started off wet, but
went off without a hitch after hurricane Dennis had
his way with the throngs of partiers. Estimated crowd
of 500 enjoyed the Royales performance in the heart
of Athens, and the band would like to thank the organizers
of the festival for their hard work, particularly Josh
Brown who selflessly worked free of charge from 10 in
the morning to 2 in the morning, no easy feat with all
the heavy lifting and wet electrical cables. Thanks
Josh! Next stop, opening up for the Dirty Dozen Brass
Band. See you there!
Also, thanks to Mary Beth Gilliam and the good folks
up at the Athens NEWS, for the following

May,
2005:
The Royales have been slated to open up for
the Dirty Dozen Brass Band in Nelsonville,
Ohio, on July 23, at 8 p.m. The Dirty Dozen Brass Band
are one of the most prolific funk/fusion bands of our
time, and hopefully the Royales will show them what
Southeast Ohio bands are made of. Tickets start at $15.00,
and more information is available here: www.stuartsoperahouse.org
Stuart’s Opera House, collaborating with
the Nelsonville Arts District, is excited to announce
Nelsonville’s Arts and Music on the Square, to
be held July 23, 2005. A bandstand
on the square will feature local, regional, and national
performers, headlined by internationally acclaimed,
New Orleans based, Dirty Dozen Brass Band.
Also confirmed at this point are The Royales
from Athens, Ohio and The Carpenter Ants
from Charleston, WV.
The Royales have also been hard at work whipping
up some new songs for y'all. New to the Playlist
are: - Sugar Sweet (Freddie King) - Pack It Up (Freddie
King) - Why Can't We Be Friends (War) - Memphis Train
(Traditional) - Soulfinger (Curtis Mayfield) and more.
Come shake your feet to the new sounds of the Royales.
Head on over to the SOUNDS
page to see our complete set list and listen to some
tunes...
March, 2005:

Andrew Stonerock, Dave Kosmyna, and Chris Neel (sax,
trumpet, and sax respectively) recently left the Royales
to pursue their musical endeavors in Memphis, Cincinnati,
and Athens, and will not be performing in the Royales
standard line-up, although they will certainly be making
guest appearances in the future. The Royales
are extremely proud to announce that Eric "Junebug"
Leighton, Ted Harris, and Chris Imhoff will be covering
the horn duties, taking the band down to a
nice piece funkestrah. The Royales new horn section
is mind blowing, and now new arrangements can be done
with the full brass ensemble, even including Jazz flute
(Ron Burgundy) on occasion by Ted. Check 'em out...
February, 2005:
The
Royales were voted "Best Local Band"
by the good citizens of Athens County in the prestigious
Athens NEWS "Best of Athens Readers Poll,"
which was announced in February and covers the previous
year, 2004. This is the second time in three years the
Royales have won this award, coming in second to Stella
in 2003. The Royales are honored to receive this award,
and will continue to plot a course to continue their
reign as the Best Band in Athens, Ohio.
The Royales also recently opened for the great
New Orleans band the Radiators, at the Blue
Gator, on February 19th. The band would like to thanks
Curtis and Joel at the Gator for the gig, and the bassist
for the Radiators for all the cool bass tips.
